Used Pontoon Boats - Fatal boating accident

Hi gang, Rick here from Used Pontoon. Boats. We can't stress enough about boat safety here. These accidents are getting all to common on the water today.

PAWHUSKA, Okla. (AP) - Osage County prosecutors charge a Tulsa man with negligent homicide in a fatal boating accident on Skiatook Lake in July.

Jason Ryan Barthel is free on his own recognizance after pleading not guilty to the misdemeanor charge, which was filed in late November.

Authorities say 57-year-old Ronald Gildersleeve was killed when a speed boat piloted by Barthel collided with a pontoon boat July 28th. Fifty-4-year-old Thomas Clayton was on the pontoon boat and lost his leg.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the pontoon boat was anchored near the Oklahoma 20 bridge over the lake. Barthel told troopers he was traveling southeast out of the posted no-wake zone at the bridge when he increased his speed. That lifted the boat's bow out of the water and obstructed his view.
Barthel could face a year in jail.
